Paediatric Genital Abnormalities

Imperforate parts

It is important to carefully examine the genitals and anus during your baby check.
Imperforate hymen may not be evident until puberty when mestruation fails to occur.

The presence of an imperforate anus is life threatening unless there is a fistula occurring. In the female this may be in the lower vagina and so passing meconium may occur without the anatomical abnormality being recognised.
